10 Ideas Blog

The 10 Ideas Blog was inspired by the words of James Altucher in his National Best Seller, Choose YourselfEach week, we sit down and challenge our brain to come up with ten ideas for new inventions.  This is a great exercise for anyone to participate in, and sometimes we come up with really great concepts (and sometimes, they’re a little crazy!) Our father, Ben Greenfield wrote an article about why this is such a good idea, and you can read that article here.

In this installment of 10 Ideas, we were inspired by the things around us every day.  People always ponder the ‘greatest thing since sliced bread’ and we had to wonder how we could make something so ordinary even better!  So, we set out to investigate the everyday items that could be improved with simple (and sometimes not-so-simple) changes.

River on Improving Everyday Items

The first thing that I saw when recording my 10 ideas for this installment was a ball of yarn.  Terran and I have tried knitting, crocheting, and sewing.  It made me think that a robot would be better at that task, and it would be very nice to have a knitting robot around the house!  My second idea was spray paint that was heat-activated.  Instead of paint that fades in the sun, it would be awesome to have paint that got stronger when exposed to the hot sun.

 

 

Terran on Improving Everyday Items

If we’re going to talk about sliced bread, then I think we have to decide what could be done to make bread better. That made me decide that pre-slicing the bread saved people time in their kitchens, so pre-buttering the bread would save even more time… and it would be extra delicious, I’m sure! I was also thinking about drawing (which I love to do) and how nice it would be to be able to flip a switch on a pencil to change the shade (or color) of it.
