10 Ideas Blog

The 10 Ideas Blog was inspired by the words of James Altucher in his National Best Seller, Choose YourselfEach week, we sit down and challenge our brain to come up with ten ideas for new inventions.  This is a great exercise for anyone to participate in, and sometimes we come up with really great concepts (and sometimes, they’re a little crazy!) Our father, Ben Greenfield wrote an article about why this is such a good idea, and you can read that article here.

In this installment of 10 Ideas, we had just come inside from helping our parents with a new landscaping project in the backyard.  We are making several changes and will soon, hopefully, be welcoming baby goats and ducks to our family.  When we were digging and hauling materials, we were inspired, and came up with a couple of ideas for making landscaping projects like this much easier and more fun.

Terran on Landscaping

I, Terran, was thinking that it would be awesome if the big tools and machinery could do even more of the work for us.  An automatic leveling function on the excavator would be so helpful and would have made this landscaping project so much easier.  I also thought that it would be nice to have machines that laid sod and gravel would be fantastic.  My last thought related to landscaping was for a sprinkler that automatically adjusted flow and intensity based on the plants it was watering.

River on Landscaping

I, River, was thinking more about the design elements of the landscaping, as opposed to making the work easier.  I thought it would be really cool if we could put color-changing water in the pond. It could either be rainbow colored all the time, or it could change color based on temperature. I also liked the idea of using color changing rocks to decorate the banks around it.

You can see some of our other ideas from the week here:
