Who says you can’t play with your food? We weren’t having any part of that myth! Instead, on this episode of GoGreenfields, River and Terran use their food in a really fun way – PANCAKE ART!
Pancake art challenges the brain to work fast and in a different way. The colors, essentially, have to be added in layers, because the colors poured or squirted first will cook very quickly. The twins were not going to be intimidated, and within a few quick tries, they had developed a rhythm that led to some pretty cool pancake drawings – which also happened to be very tasty!
Gluten Free Pancake Batter
Ingredients

- 2 T sugar
- 2 T olive oil or avocado oil
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 C gluten-free flour
- ¼ teaspoon xanthan gum (some GF flour mixes already contain this, in which case you won’t need to add it)
- 1 T baking powder
- ¾ C milk (you may need slightly more or less in order to achieve a good consistency for your pancake art)
- Food dye
Directions
- In a large bowl mix the egg, granulated sugar, vanilla, and the oil together.
- In a separate bowl stir together the gluten-free flour, xanthan gum, baking powder, and salt.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to your egg mixture and beat until thoroughly combined.
- Stir in milk one or two tablespoons at a time until the mixture reaches a consistency that can be easily squeezed through a condiment squeeze bottle.
- Use a small funnel to pour your pancake batter into the squeeze bottles.
- Add food dye to each to create the various colors you’ll require for your pancake art.
- Shake bottles vigorously to ensure that the color is evenly mixed.
- You will need to preheat and lightly oil your griddle before starting your drawings.
