In this episode, River and Terran get into the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day. They celebrate the holiday as so many people do… with great food! Spending time in the kitchen keeps the holidays alive for kids, and these recipes can be accomplished by beginner chefs (with just a little help from mom, dad, or other loved one).

St. Patrick’s Day Soda Bread
INGREDIENTS
- 4 cups flour
- 4 TBSP sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- caraway seeds (optiona)
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat oven to 375°
- Measure dry ingredients into large mixing bowl.
- Stir with a fork.
- Slowly mix in 1/2 cup of softened butter.
- Add 1 cup of buttermilk and egg.
- Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead slightly
- Form dough into a round and place on a prepared baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, combine melted butter with 1/4 cup buttermilk; brush loaf with this mixture.
- Use a sharp knife to cut an ‘X’ into the top of the loaf.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes.
- Cool on a rack, slice and serve!

Shepherd’s Pie
INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground lamb
- 1 TBSP olive oil
- 1 medium diced onion
- 1 large diced carrot
- 1 cup of frozen peas
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 large russet potato
- butter
- salt
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat oven to 375°
- In a cast iron skillet, saute onions in olive oil until translucent.
- Add carrots and cook until they start to soften.
- Add ground beef and lamb.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Stir in frozen peas.
- Peel and thinly slice the potato.
- Arrange potato slices in a snail formation on top of filling mixture.
- Drizzle with melted butter and sprinkle with salt.
- Bake for 20-30 minutes.
